Treatment Safety & Contraindications

How we keep our treatments safe, what we'll ask before we proceed, and when we will postpone a session.

Our approach

Eonia's treatments use medical-grade equipment and clinical protocols. The same scrutiny a fixed-clinic visit applies to a mobile visit. Before any treatment we conduct a private consultation — by phone, video, or in person — and ask you to complete a short medical-history form. The forms are matched to the specific treatment booked. Nothing proceeds without your signed consent on file.

Refuse-treatment criteria

For your safety, we will postpone or decline a treatment if any of the following apply. This list is not exhaustive — the consultation may identify other reasons to wait.

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding — most treatments postponed; we will refer back to your GP or obstetrician.
  • Active skin infection at the treatment area — postpone until fully healed.
  • Recent surgical procedure on or near the treatment area (within six weeks) — postpone.
  • Active herpes simplex outbreak in the treatment area (for any needling-based treatment) — postpone.
  • Isotretinoin (Roaccutane) in the last twelve months — for needling-based and meso treatments, postpone.
  • Known allergy to topical anaesthetic or numbing cream — we will substitute or decline as needed.
  • Pacemaker or implanted electronic device — for certain LED protocols we will adjust or decline.
  • Photosensitising medications (see list below) — for LED phototherapy, postpone for the medication's safety window.
  • Active skin cancer or undiagnosed lesion in the area — refer to your GP or dermatologist first.
  • Epilepsy or seizure disorder triggered by light — LED phototherapy may not be appropriate.
  • Recent injectable cosmetic treatment in the area — wait the practitioner-recommended interval.

LED phototherapy — eye protection & photosensitisers

Dermalux Flex MD LED phototherapy uses clinically validated wavelengths (415 nm, 633 nm, 830 nm). It is non-ionising and well tolerated, but two protections apply:

  1. Eye protection is provided for every session. Goggles are supplied and required to be worn for the full duration of light exposure.
  2. Photosensitising medications and supplements — please tell us at consultation if you are currently taking any of the following or have taken them in the past four weeks:
    • Isotretinoin (Roaccutane, Oratane)
    • Doxycycline, tetracyclines, and related antibiotics
    • Methoxsalen / psoralens (PUVA therapy)
    • St John's Wort
    • Some diuretics (hydrochlorothiazide, furosemide)
    • Some NSAIDs at high dose
    • Some antiarrhythmics (amiodarone)
    • Recent topical retinoids in the treatment area

This list is not exhaustive. If you are uncertain about a medication, bring it to consultation or call us before your appointment.

What is normal — and what isn't

After most needling-based or LED treatments, the following are expected and resolve within hours to a few days:

  • Redness and warmth (workout-flush look)
  • Minor sensitivity to touch in the treated area
  • Light peeling or dryness over the following 1–3 days (some treatments)
  • A pink LED "glow" briefly after Dermalux sessions

Call us first, then your GP if you can't reach us, if you experience any of the following:

  • Swelling that worsens beyond 48 hours rather than improving
  • Pus, weeping, or signs of infection in the treated area
  • Fever, chills, or feeling generally unwell after a session
  • Severe pain that isn't relieved by routine aftercare
  • A vision change after LED phototherapy (unlikely with goggles worn but please tell us immediately if it happens)

Consent and records

Before each treatment you will be given the treatment-specific consent form to read and sign. Consent covers what the treatment is, the expected outcomes, the risks and contraindications, the aftercare, and the photographic baseline (where you have consented separately to photographs being taken).

Signed consent forms are stored encrypted and retained for a minimum of seven (7) years from the date of last treatment, in line with the Australian healthcare standard. You can ask for a copy of your consent record at any time.

Sterile technique & single-use

All needling-based treatments use sterile, single-use cartridges. Reusable equipment is cleaned and disinfected between sessions per the device manufacturer's protocol. The mobile delivery format does not change this standard.
